History
In 1995, the majority of WellPoint businesses operating outside of California were branded under the name Unicare. A number of acquisitions brought in life insurance and group health insurance products, which brings Unicare to where it is today, offering a broad array of products and services to meet consumer needs. Products
Unicare offers traditional managed care products as well as new hybrid plans taking advantage of traditional managed care and open access models. Plans are designed to encourage high needs consumers to choose intensively managed plans, while less needy members are encouraged to choose plans with greater freedom. This is designed to provide increased control of care and access in exchange for additional cost-maintenance measures.
